Tokyo to Echigo-Yuzawa: A Bath and Sake Day

AI-generated illustration: A steaming outdoor hot spring beside a wooden inn, with snow-covered mountains beyond.
Generic winter hot-spring illustration (AI-generated), not a photograph of the Ponshukan sake bath.

A warm soak, time for lunch, then a taste of Niigata sake: this day brings two Ponshukan experiences together without adding another journey across town. Both are inside the Echigo-Yuzawa station complex, so the focus stays on the visit.

Choose it when the half-day tasting trip feels too short and you would enjoy an onsen stop as well. The order is deliberate: bath first, lunch and a break, then the tasting room.

What to budget

Planning budget: JPY 17,050–19,750 per person. Checked 2026-09-29.

Includes: round-trip transport, food, admission.

About JPY 17,050–19,750 per adult: return reserved-seat paper rail tickets JPY 13,400–14,600, bath JPY 950, towel set JPY 200, one five-coin tasting set JPY 1,000 and food allowance JPY 1,500–3,000. Shopping and travel to Tokyo Station are additional.

One stop, two experiences

Keeping both visits in the same station complex makes this a useful option for a day with less moving around. A 30-minute outward delay fits into the original wait before the bath opens. With a 60- or 90-minute delay, choose a later return so that both visits and the meal break remain comfortable.
