Niigata Furusatomura: Local Food, Crafts and Culture in One Stop

Explore Niigata through regional foods, sake, rice and crafts at Niigata Furusatomura, then give those discoveries context with its history and culture displays. The Bazaar Building and Niigata-kan offer two complementary reasons to stop: shopping for local products and learning about the region.

Why visit

The appeal is the combination rather than a single attraction. The Bazaar Building brings regional foods and crafts together on its first floor, with restaurants upstairs. Five One Iine! Niigata-kan, formerly the Appeal Building, offers visitor information downstairs and displays about Niigata’s history and culture upstairs. Consider pairing a browse through the products with the cultural displays for a broader introduction to the region.

Plan your visit

Find Niigata Furusatomura at 2307 Yamada, Nishi Ward, Niigata City. For a driving visit, the official access guide identifies parking beside Route 8 and another parking area on the Shinano River side. If you are considering public transport, use the bus-access information linked from that guide to plan your arrival.

Make the most of your visit

Try using the visitor-information floor to orient yourself before exploring the cultural displays. In the Bazaar Building, give yourself room to compare the rice, sake, foods and crafts rather than treating it only as a meal stop. The second-floor restaurants offer a separate dining option. Both main buildings have free entry, so you can focus your visit on browsing and culture without an admission charge. Meals and purchases are paid separately.

Planning notes

Niigata-kan normally opens 09:00–17:00, extending to 18:00 from 20 July through 31 August. The Bazaar Building normally opens 09:30–17:30, with possible extensions during busy holiday periods; restaurant service hours can differ. Banyatei is reservation-only for groups, a condition specific to that restaurant rather than site entry.

The site opens year-round, subject to possible temporary maintenance closures. Both buildings have nursing rooms, and Niigata-kan has a changing table. Wheelchairs can be borrowed at both information counters, and strollers at Niigata-kan, without advance reservation. Use the designated parking areas, not neighbouring businesses’ parking.
