Why visit

The museum was established in 1975 to preserve Aizu Yaichi’s work and moved to Media Ship in 2014. Its appeal is the chance to approach one figure through three connected interests: calligraphy, poetry and scholarship. Consider it if you prefer a visit centred on an individual creative life rather than a broad survey.

Plan your visit

Head to Media Ship at 3-1-1 Bandai, Chuo Ward, Niigata, and make for the fifth floor. The museum’s published access guidance gives an approximate 15-minute walk from Niigata Station; use that as your approach estimate rather than a fixed travel time.

Make the most of your visit

Try choosing one of Yaichi’s roles as your starting point: calligrapher, poet or scholar. Then consider how the other two might change your reading of his work. This gives the visit a personal thread without needing to treat every aspect of his career as a separate subject.
