Why visit
The appeal is the connection between research and the materials it leaves behind. The museum brings specimens, instruments and other materials collected through Niigata University research into public view, offering a starting point for exploring academic work beyond its written results.
Plan your visit
Admission is free. The address is 746 Asahimachidori 2-bancho, Chuo Ward.
The official walking estimate from Hakusan Station is 20 minutes. Official local access estimates from bus stops are five minutes from Higashinakadori, seven minutes from Shiyakushomae and three minutes from Niitsu Kinenkanmae. Use these as local approach estimates, not as service timetables or confirmation of a connecting journey. There are five parking spaces, and the museum encourages public transport.
Make the most of your visit
Try approaching the displays with a question: what might a specimen help a researcher understand, or what task might an instrument support? Let the materials on display guide your attention rather than building the visit around a particular object. Displays change, so no specific item is guaranteed.
Planning notes
The official opening information, checked on 17 October 2026, gives hours of 10:00–12:00 and 13:00–16:30. The museum closes from noon to 13:00, so choose a morning or afternoon window rather than arriving during that interval.
Regular closures are Sundays and Mondays, three days in mid-August, and 29 December–3 January. Temporary closures may also occur; consult the museum’s current calendar before setting out.
